Christianity Isn’t Easy

There are a large number of people calling themselves Christians in this day and age. Before I talk about anything else, i think it would be best to define the term “Christian”.

The first time anyone used the term was in the book of Acts 11:26. when it was used , the term was referring a group of people who followed the teachings of Jesus.

Now, with that being said, Jesus taught a couple of things if you wanted to be counted as part of his disciples:

“Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” -Matthew 16:24

With the statement above, Jesus is letting us know that following him is going to mean death. I’m not saying that being a Christian means that you’re going to have to kill yourself, please don’t misunderstand me. Being a christian means denying your will so that Jesus’ will can be done.

A christian does not live for himself, he lives to bless others. I’m not saying that Christians aren’t allowed to enjoy anything. What I’m saying is that God might ask you to give up something valuable to you to bless others.

Once we come to God through Jesus, we embark on a whole new lifestyle. What we want becomes secondary to what God wants. He becomes our king. Whatever the king wants, the king gets.

The problem we have is that whenever we think of the word “king” we think of a despot or a bad king. It took me a bit for me to understand that God is a great king and he wants only the best for me. Earthly kings are a total roll of the dice. Some are good, some are bad. This is the main reason why the word “king” had a negative connotation.

The goal of the king is to rule the nation. The goal of God is to bless us and those around us. In order to bless those around us, God might ask us to give up something we value to bless others. When that happens, don’t hesitate. Do it. You’ll learn a lot about God.
