Nathalie Goldberg’s Writing Down The Bones (1986) is a fountain of advice and hope for writers everywhere. She presents to the reader her thoughts on writing and a writer’s life.
When I started writing, I didn’t know if I had made a huge mistake. I didn’t know if I was good enough, I didn’t know if anyone would ever read what I wrote or if they were even going to like it. After reading this book, I was calm about the whole writing thing. Goldberg’s viewpoint on the writing life helped me re-calibrate my expectations about writing. The book does not go into grammar rules; it just gives the reader a clear perspective on purpose.
The book is not a long one. I felt the book was the perfect length. It was really helpful for me to hear about the experiences of a seasoned writer. I recommend this book to anyone who is in the fence about writing. You won’t be the same after reading this book.
