Book Review: Wanderers

Awesome Premise

Chuck Wendig’s Wanderers (2019) is about sleepwalkers. Regular people begin sleepwalking and there is no way to snap them out of it. No one knows where they are headed and if they’ll ever stop walking. A doctor gets called in to investigate the phenomenon. He needs to figure out the source of the problem and prevent it from spreading.

One Step At A Time

Wendig takes his sweet time in telling the story. The book follows a couple of characters this makes the book go a little longer than most, but it’s totally worth it. The characters feel developed and real. There is no rush to the storylines and the pace is perfect.

Difference Of Opinion

There were a couple of times during the story when I felt the characters were nothing more than mouthpieces for Wendig’s view on different topics. It got a little too preachy for my taste. It probably didn’t help that I didn’t agree on everything he put forth. There are also a couple of mature scenes in the book, so maybe read it before handing it off to the kids.

Final Thoughts

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t know what to expect from the book when I began reading. It went to places I wasn’t expecting. It’s a fantastic story and I think if you read it, you won’t be disappointed.
