Book Review: The Last Command

The Conclusion To The Trilogy

Timothy Zahn’s The Last Command (1993) is the third and last novel in the Heir To The Empire trilogy. Thrawn managed to take control of the Katana fleet and he is focused on destroying the new republic. Han Solo, Chewbacca and Talon Karrde form an alliance of smugglers to defend the new republic. Luke and Leia face their own troubles as they fight a dark jedi who wants to turn them to the dark side of the force.

Awesome Ride

I understand the description I gave in the previous chapter is vague bordering on cryptic. I just don’t want to give any spoilers. Once I finished reading this book.I felt tired; it was as if I had taken a long trip and it was finally over. I was also bummed it was over.

All of the books in the trilogy felt like smooth continuation of the story from the original movies. Timothy Zahn got the settings, characters and dialogue just right; no easy feat considering the large number of iconic characters.

Final Thoughts

Read this book. If you’re a Star Wars fan, you will not be disappointed. I would recommend this book even if you’re not a Star Wars fan I think the story will pull you in and take you on a fantastic trip across the galaxy.
