Book Review: The Game Of Lives

James Dashner’s The Game Of Lives (2015) is the conclusion to the Mortality Doctrine trilogy. In it we discover the truth behind the attacks perpetrated by Kaine. After the events of the first two books (The Eye Of Minds, The Rule Of Thoughts) Michael decides to play offense. He’s going to do everything possible to stop the attacks on the real world coming from the virtual one.

Emotion and Depth

This is the most emotional book of the trilogy. I didn’t think I was going to see any more character development of the main character in the final book, but Dashner created a little bit more depth to the protagonist. He also created a tragedy to jolt the reader from complacency and to add an element of surprise to the story.

Final Thoughts

Please go out and read this book. It’s a satisfying conclusion to a well-told story. Don’t think for a second that all the punches have already happened in the trilogy, this book is going to make you keep turning the pages until the very end.
