Book Review: Star Wars Legends: The Rebellion Vol. 1

Star Wars Legends: The Rebellion Vol. 2 (2016) is a compilation of comic books released in a series written by Paul Alden, John Wagner, Randy Stradley, Darko Macan & Brian Wood. These stories take place between Episodes IV and V. It focuses on adventures Luke, Leia, Han Solo and Darth Vader had after the destruction of the first Death Star.

The stories in this compilation are great. The characters behave in a similar to what they did in the movies. The writers introduced new characters and the events in their stories were interesting enough to want me to find out what happened to them. It was kinda sad to get to the end of their stories because they’re minor characters and these stories are probably going to be the last time we’re going to see them. The only drawback I discovered to one of the stories was one regarding Luke Skywalker. I thought they showed to be too childish, but then it hit me, Luke was young around this time. I guess I just idealized him too much and it didn’t feel right for him to behave in a amateurish manner

The illustrations are fantastic. The colors are vibrant and the action was clearly defined. I wish some of the two-page illustrations were posters. They look great and I looked forward to running into them as I made my way through the stories. Even though some if the stories have different styles of drawing, they felt right according to the tone of the story. I do have to say though, Darth Vader looks great in every story he appears. All the other characters look cool, but he looks the best. I think. It might have something to do with him being such an iconic character. That and he has a great suit.

Final Thoughts

I recommend this book to any Star Wars fan. If you are not a fan, you might feel a little lost. I recommend watching episode IV before reading it. It’s a great compilation of stories. It’s a shame Disney declared them as apocryphal to the newer movies.
