Clive Cussler’s Sahara (1992) takes Dirk Pitt to Africa to stop a mysterious plague. There’s a film based on this book.
Cussler is a master storyteller. When I read the book, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I think it might be the combination of history and adventure. Those two subjects are like catnip to me.
I saw the movie and I thought it captured the major plot points of the novel. I thought it was entertaining, but it got mixed reviews by the critics. This happens more often than not. There are so many books or movies I love that were flops.
I love Indiana Jones. I love everything that is similar to the tone of the Indiana Jones movies. This book is one of the few that managed to capture the tone. If you love adventure and history, you have to read this book.
