Stephen King’s Finders Keepers (2015) is not exactly a sequel to Mr. Mercedes but rather a story set in the same universe. The story is about a kid who finds a trunk filled with money and notebooks. The contents of the trunk belonged to a murdered reclusive writer. The money was the writer’s savings and the notebooks are filled with his writings. The man who buried the trunk is insane and he wants the trunk contents back. He will kill anyone or anything that gets in his way.
Not Really A Sequel
I’m used to sequels featuring characters from the first story in the series. This book mentions the main character from Mr. Mercedes a third of the way into the story. King does a fantastic job of immersing the reader as he introduces the new characters. As usual the antagonist is freaking creepy. It made me feel scared every time we took up the POV of the bad guy. Another thing this book does a great job at is description. Every setting is detailed enough to pull you into the story.
At the beginning, I thought the story moved slow. But then it hit me, King was introducing the new characters so the reader could care about him. I also liked how he weaved the events of this story to the events of the first book. It all worked perfectly and it also felt natural.
This is a great book. I felt it wasn’t as scary as other of King’s stories. So this might be a good place to start the Stephen King catalogue. I highly recommend this book.
