Book Review: Factfulness

Remain Calm and Research

The world is a complicated place, at times it can be dark and depressing. The media outlets tend to paint a gloomy picture of the world, but is the world as depressing as they portray it? Are things really getting worse?

Cut Through The Noise

Hans Rosling’s book Factfulness (2018) aim to teach everyone how to discern through the noise and get to the heart of the matter. The book begins with a quiz. The purpose of the quiz is to show you how skewed our world view can be. Rosling gives us the correct answers to the questions and goes on to explain where he gets the answers.

Complex and Simple

The concepts discussed in this book are not simple. They are huge abstract concepts we built in our heads about how the state of the world. If we have an erroneous view of the world, we will tend to make the wrong decisions when strategizing a marketing plan or targeting a customer base. I thought the book was going to be a collection of statistics, and yes, there are statistics in it, but Rosling’s examples and real-life experiences made the data easy to understand.

Final Thoughts

I’ve never read a book like this before. The subject matter is unique and compelling. I felt like I learned so much by the time I was done with it. Please read this book. It will blow your mind and it will make you think twice before believing the depressing statistics presented by the media.
